On Saturday Project Dreams sponsored an event at Carl Dudley's store, Artrageous, in the Macon Mall. The purpose of our day was to support a young person who is living her dreams. Project Dreams also wanted to share with the community the talents of Jharee. Project Dreams believe whether a person is at the beginning, middle or end of accomplishing a goal or dream, it is our responsibility to help them to the fulfill that dream..Project Dreams is here to give our young people the support and encouragement they need to reach their dreams.
We had a wonderful time listening to Jharee speak on avoiding peer pressure, making the right choices and telling parents to never give up on their children. Jharee also sung three songs and presented us with her very own song "Pressure." We had a wonderful time! Project Dreams is always in search of dedicated youth committed to being successful.

Project Dreams and Jharee
This past week was a busy week for Project Dreams. We have been busy for the past two months preparing for this event. Our weeks progression started Thursday when Jharee, JaCobe ,JaCori, and I spoke on Al Tilman's Radio Show: "Unity in the Community." We spent an hour discussing issues related to all the violence that has been taking place in our city. We discussed the goals Project Dreams has for an event planned for Saturday September 17, 2011. Jharee discussed why she feels music is one key to helping to fight the violence in Macon.

Reflection
I spent this summer with some wonderful young people. I have learned life is full of lessons and some of those lessons come from people we least expect. I spent my summer at Stone Academy working with the children there. I went thinking that I would be the teacher of these children, but in the end I learned how to be more patient, kind and tolerant of others. Sometimes as adults we have to learn to be child like when we meet people and are learning to walk in our purpose. Pastor Tony has been enlightening in his teaching. Sometimes the lessons that are taught to children are lessons that we can use in our own lives.
Thank you STONE ACADEMY for allowing PROJECT DREAMS into your world!

Children of the World

Children are alike in so many ways.
they add to our lives and brighten our days.
by teaching them to take flight and spread their wings,
we are giving them hope,
building their faith,
and giving them every reason to dream.

Using Poetry to Inspire
Poetry plays a very important role in my life. I often times use poetry as a way of reflection. Most of the time when I have gone through an emotional change, I sit down and begin to write. I often times do not have a structure for what I am writing, but the more I write, the clearer my message becomes. I think this example is the perfect fit for the quote made by Robert Frost, “A poem begins in delight and ends with wisdom.” I agree with Frost because I never have any intentions on making my poems work for me. I simply begin with a thought and end up with words that I feel are worth discovering.

Support the Vision

How many of you ever had a dream as a child? You dreamed of meeting your favorite actor, actress, singer or sports player. You also had the dream of being rich one day. Well children are losing their vision and often times are wondering where their lives will end up. With the economy at a stand still and parents losing jobs, it is difficult to look at the future with bright eyes. Project Dreams is here to encourage, inspire and assist children with a road map to creating and obtaining their dreams. Don't forget to help a child. When you purchase a copy of this phenomenal book and give it to a child you are giving them the gift of hope and allowing them to dream.

Students Participating in Readers Theatre
Being a classroom teacher was one of the most important job I or any person could ever have. As a teacher, I was compelled to find what made my students happy, sad, what made them want to learn and what made them shut down. This was important to me because as long as my students were happy they were able to learn.
My book idea was inspired by several events in my life: my experience as an educator, my experience visiting schools reading poetry, my experiences with my daughter and parts of my own childhood. Children are faced with so many more issues than what I experienced as a child. If we are ever going to help children discover how to grow and prosper, we must first make sure that they have a foundation build on understand who they are and who empowers them. We need to reassure our children that an education must be taken seriously, we must teach our children about their history and tell them that a DREAM is only as big as they decide to make it. We must also tell them reaching that DREAM is only a matter of how much time they are willing to give to developing it. We must also show them examples of people, who inspite of their circumstances, reached their dreams. Then and only then will we have made a difference in the lives of children.

I have waited for this moment all my life. To work on a project and see it through is an awesome feeling. This book is a true testimony to the saying "only the strong survive." There were days when people doubted me and I kept looking up to God, "Saying I know you gave me a vision." My mission her is to make sure that every child, no matter if they are rich or poor understand the value of faith, determination, and commitment. Children can make a difference in life. As adults we need to encourage a generation of little girls and little boys to find themselves and to dream big and reach those dreams. There is power in believing in you when no one else is willing. There is even more power when God appoints you to your calling.
